Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson is the daughter of British lawyers Jacqueline Luesby (born in Paris) as well as Chris Watson (born in Paris). Her family was moved to Oxfordshire as a child and attended an academy called the Dragon School. Emma decided to become an actor when she was six. For several years she was at the Oxford Branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts part-time school. There she learned singing as well as dancing, and also acting. By the time she turned 10 Emma took part in numerous Stagecoach productions, as well as school plays. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone was the film of 2001 adaptation from J.K. Rowling's bestselling book was filmed in 1999. Agents for casting found Emma from her Oxford Theatre teacher. After eight continuous auditions, producer David Heyman told Emma and other applicants Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint that they had been selected for the role of the three leads Hermione Granger Harry Potter and Ron Weasley. The film's release Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001) was Emma's cinematic screen debut. The film broke records for first-day openings and weekday openings and was the highest-grossing film in 2001. Many critics have praised the film and the performances by the three main young actors. The Daily Telegraph, a frequently read British newspaper, was awed by her for her impressive performance. In the following days, Emma was shortlisted for five prizes for her work in the film. She was the winner of an award called the Young Artist Award for Leading Actress of a Younger in a Feature Film.
